DESIGNFREO ON LOCATION 26: SILVA&MUSTARD / LATHLAIN HOUSE

How can design make a small home feel bigger?

We’re excited to invite you inside another award-winning home from the recent WA Architecture Awards – Lathlain House by Silva & Mustard.

The jury citation describes Lathlain House as ‘enchanting’, and we couldn’t agree more. Designed by architects Dennis Silva and Anna Mustard for their young family, the compact home on a battle-axe block is full of clever ideas and details.

The pair have made the most of a modest budget and constrained site to create a charming two-storey abode with a fab floor plan and sunny garden. With its deceptively simple form and red brick exterior, Lathlain House feels as if it’s always been there. It proves that careful planning and attention to light can make smaller spaces feel generous.

Experience it yourself on August 8 when Dennis and Anna open their doors and talk us through the Lathlain House story. A great example of density done well, it’s a must-see for anyone thinking of subdividing or just looking for inspiration.
