DESIGNFREO 2026 PROGRAM LAUNCHES
The DesignFreo program 2026 has launched, kicking off our sixth year of events celebrating design and design ideas in the West.
Our program invites you to tour award-winning projects by Perth’s leading architects, including spaceagency, vittinoAshe and MDC Architects. The conversation series gives voice to practitioners and their work, from fashion and furniture to landscape and public art. The first conversation features UK-born, Fremantle-based interior designer and stylist, Jessica Rayment.
Jess has a unique aesthetic and is passionate about supporting the work of local designers and artists. We’re hosting the event in Jess’s warehouse studio – a treasure trove of furniture, objects and art that reflect her curatorial eye.
The second event will visit an award-winning, compact family home designed by Philip Stejskal Architecture, aligned with DesignFreo’s focus on sustainability.
We love taking people inside modest-scale homes that showcase quality over size. The architect and client will talk through the design and build, highlighting ideas that everyone can take away. It’s a beautiful example of understated design that combines a clever floor plan with tactile materials to create a warm and inviting home.
In October, Fremantle will come alive with the third Fremantle Design Week, a biennial event that was Western Australia’s first design week back in 2022. This year will bring over 60 diverse events to the port city under the theme ‘Imagine.’ A walkable festival, it takes place in and around Fremantle’s historic West End and is embedded in the city.
Launched in 2020, DesignFreo is a not-for-profit founded to build design awareness in Western Australia by connecting the public with the profession. DesignFreo is on a mission: to demystify design and show that good design isn’t expensive, superficial or just a ‘nice to have’.
Design is not about how much money you have. We’re here to show that good design can and should be accessible to everyone, from the smallest object to the scale of a city. Good design makes life easier and more joyful, and is an investment in a healthy, equitable society.
DesignFreo encourages everyone to seek out and celebrate good design, not just for their own benefit, but for the greater good. Fremantle has an incredible design community, and we punch well above our weight on the national and global stage. DesignFreo gives talented designers from Freo and further afield a platform to bring important design conversations into the public realm.
