DESIGNFREO ON LOCATION 17: PENHALE&WINTER/ADA STREET

‘The good, the strange and the ugly,’ is how architects Penhale & Winter jokingly first described the South Fremantle property they were tasked with transforming into a contemporary home for a down-sizing couple. 

They kept the good – a charming weatherboard cottage at the front of the block – and replaced the rest with a two-storey rear addition that fits perfectly into South Freo’s eclectic, residential-meets-light-industrial character. The owners now have a light-filled, 4 bedroom home that connects to the outdoors in every direction and includes a productive garden.
